heartburn

Anything I eat gives me heartburn, and I have had it for like a week.
Keep in mind I am seven months pregnant. Thanks.

  • What helped when maximum strength tums did nothing was about a HALF teaspoon of baking soda mixed with about 12 ounces of milk. I am sooo serious, that was a HUGE relief… it tastes salty, but it was soooo worth it! :)

  • You can try chewing gum that is mint flavored, or anything else mint flavored. Other than that, you might talk to your doctor at your next checkup and he/she should be able to prescribe you something for it.

  • Well I have been getting heartburn for the past 2 weeks, and I have never gotten it before. (yes my husband and I want to have a baby) and I just take 2 of those Anti-acid pills. They are chewable, like Rolaids, but get the off brand b/c it works better and you get more for your money.

  • milk is helping me at the moment hun how long it will work for is anyones guess lol

  • I eat antiacid pills like candy and it STILL doesn’t help. I’ve learned to stop eating and drinking 2 hours before i go to bed. It’s helped.

  • Have to agree with Due with #4.

Baking soda mixed with water for me was the only thing that helped! Just make sure you follow the proportions correctly. They are listed on the side of the baking soda box.

It will taste salty and you may retain some water the next day, so if you have edema (severe swelling) don’t use it.

  • I’ve been getting heartburn so terrible I can’t sleep–it rocks my whole body and gives me headaches. Water with baking soda takes it down a small, Tums seem to bring it down to about half its strength, and a cold glass of milk seems to do the best work on it–but it doesn’t seem to completely go away. The milk helps me sleep as well. Excellent luck!

  • Milk of Magnesia is what my grandmother recommends. You can get a kind you eat, or a kind you drink.

  • oh boy. I have had heartburn my entire pregnancy. I cried to my doc I was so sick of it. Finally she opened her purse and gave me some tums…
The only thing I will take is tums, its the only thing that helps! Try it. Try 3 at first. I promise its safe, otherwise my doc wouldnt have given it to me.
    Excellent luck

  • I can tell you that Baking Soda in Water is not safe in pregnancy especially if you have high blood pressure!! It will make you retain water and cause electrolyte imbalances. Over the counter Zantac is safe as well as Tums. ******* on Lemon or Ginger candy is also a excellent remedy. The best thing to do is not eat 2 hours before bed, stay away from spicy foods, and drink plenty of water. Stay away from acidic drinks such as soda and citrus juices. Nothing will take all of your heartburn away, but if it is too severe, talk it over with your Dr. and there are prescription medications that are safe to take in pregnancy to help with this issue.

  • Avoid fatty, spicy and fried foods because they seem to cause heartburn. Beverages like coffee, carbonated drinks, tea, citrus juices and chocolate flavored drinks may also aggravate heartburn. You can also elevate the head of your bed. Pillows under the shoulders will work fine for as long as your head and chest are higher than your feet. This will prevent the reflux of acid to the esophagus. It will also help if you consume frequent small meals throughout the day. Eating three large meals will only predispose one to have heartburn. The last meal of the day should also be eaten two to three hours before bedtime.

You should also avoid tight fitting clothing. These clothes may only increase the pressure on your stomach and abdomen, thus increasing the risk of heartburn. Wait for at least an hour after a meal before you lie down. If you have to lie down, lie down on your left side. This position will prevent the acid to reflux into the esophagus easily. For a quick fix, chew a gum after a meal. Research has shown that chewing gum stimulates saliva flow. It contains useful bicarbonate that is helpful in neutralizing the acid that has refluxed into the esophagus.

    Hope this helps!
