What are some foods that won’t cause heartburn while pregnant?
Mommy2Be080409 questioned:
I am getting horrible heartburn to the point that I must stay upright while sleeping and I feel like EVERYTHING I eat I get heartburn–I must admit, I have been abit of a junk food addict lately but I have since changed my ways–I have sworn off any sugary food (except for friday’s) anyways does anyone have any suggegstions or a link to a list of foods that will not contribute to my heartburn problems?

Heartburn No More

pepsi and spicy pork rinds i still eat them like now but just not many edit sorry i read the question incorrect i know chicken noodle soup does not give heartburn eggs, and such
I’ve noticed that any spicy food or anything with any spices in it gives me heartburn?
If i stick to plain non-spiced foods I do way better!
But basically I reckon Heartburn is inevitable!
Everything causes heart burn for me too! I stopped trying to find things that wouldn’t cause it and just started taking Zantac, which is completely safe during pregnancy. I am so glad I found it because the heartburn is so horrrible!
You can take the 75 mg or the 150’s.

Its not the food so much, its the quantity. The best way to control heartburn is to eat several small meals or healthy snacks. You stomache is compressed right now so it can’t hold as much as you are used to. It bubbles back up. I try to eat a small at a time and nibble frequently and keep a huge bottle of tums in my purse.
The only thing that helped me was milk and lots of water. I drank of a gallon of milk a day my required amounts of water and if I got when we were out running around just the plain ancient peppermint pinwheel would help for a small bit. Excellent Luck!
my doc said to eat smaller meals and to stay away from grease and spicy foods. I do eat smaller meals but i also get so thirsty and end up drinking way too much water and then that makes me throw up a lil in my month. try eating smaller parts oh and i hear tums really work. i dont take them but i hear they are fantastic
Uugghhh..I am so with you! The only thing I can eat that doesn’t seem to tear me up is MILK. I know it’s not a food, but sometimes I even have to eat cereal for dinner because I don’t want the heartburn. I keep tums with me 24/7-that’s for sure!
Unfortunately, they pretty much all do…
Learn to like Tums…they can help.
Not only does it depend WHAT you eat but how far ALONG you are.
Eventually toward the end you may find that anything and everything gives you heartburn as it has less to do with what you eat as the baby is huge and give you a case of reflux.
I would check with your doctor, get his/her opinion. I would reckon spicy foods, greasy foods. Anything terribly acidic such as sodas, or citrus.
Excellent Luck.
I am going to be watching your question because my heartburn is getting unbearable. It seems like even water gives me heartburn, I can’t sleep with out sitting up slightly, Tums isn’t working for me so I need some suggestions or something soon lol. Excellent Luck!
OMG! heartburn is horrible i get it with everything as well no matter what i eat i just take some tums !
Anything that is acidic will contribute to your heartburn. You can help ease the heartburn by eating smaller, more frequent meals so that your stomach doesn’t get so full. In pregnancy as your uterus pushes up under your ribcage your stomach gets squashed up higher and some of its contents can back up into your esophagus.
You still probably will get heartburn a bit until the end of your pregnancy but you can lessen it by not eating acidic foods (citrus, tomatoes, spicy foods, etc.).
Many people have heartburn when pregnant. It is not always related to foods eaten. Things are crowded in there. I found that chewing several tums helped tremendously. Zantac is supposed to be safe, but when I was pregnant it was Rx only and I didn’t feel safe using drugs.
I also find that I end up with heartburn from just about everything. During pregnancy, your stomach naturally produces more acid…so, it may not be just the foods you’re eating, but a hormone-induced increase in stomach acid.
In the beginning of my pregnancy I had such horrible heartburn that my throat swelled up. At that time I took Pepcid AC (under doctor’s recommendations), but I don’t need it anymore. Now, I have to stay away from tomato sauces. Real tomatoes are better, but any sort of pasta or pizza sauce really aggravates my heartburn. Greasy foods also tend to, as do very sugary ones. Sometimes really cold water and ice help to ease the burn. An occasional cup of ice cream or small glass of chocolate milk also seem to help coat my stomach and esophagus temporarily. Tums don’t help much, and I find that they make me queasy. Ironically, I find that eating fresh vegetables seems to help the most.
Excellent luck, and hope you get some relief soon. I feel your pain!
